Greenville County is located in the foothills of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains and is ranked by Money Magazine as one of the ?300 Best Places to Live?. As South Carolina?s most populous county with more than 350,900 residents, Greenville is part of the nation?s fastest growing area, the I-85 corridor.

The city of Greenville was founded in 1770 at the site of the Reedy River Falls Park in downtown Greenville. The falls were once the source of power for early industries. The land around Greenville has evolved into a business center with more than 240 international firms representing 23 nations with Hitachi, Michelin and BMW being just a few. Greenville has more engineers per capita than any other county in the United States and is known as the main engineering hub in the Southeast. Employment opportunities abound in the area, and the county boasts a low unemployment rate of 3%.

You?ll find travel in Greenville made easy with quick access to I-85 and I-385. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is the largest of three airports handling more than 1.5 million passengers each year. More than 90 flights are offered daily to 14 non-stop destinations.

The climate in Greenville escapes the brutally cold temperatures of the north. January is generally the coldest month of the year with an average daily temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Unlike the common perception of the energy draining summers of the south, July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Greenville extends year-round recreational possibilities and an abundance of natural offerings from hiking or golfing in the mountains to boating on the lake. State and national parks are in abundance in the area and the beaches of South Carolina and the ski resorts of North Carolina are only a few hours away.

Education in Greenville is ranked among the best in the state. Greenville County is the largest school district in South Carolina with over 58,000 students. In addition to the great public schools, there are private and parochial schools from which to chose. Furman University and Bob Jones University are among the choices for the college student.

Greenville County also offers as many opportunities that your cultural palette will savor. From galleries to ballet, you?re sure to find it all. A definite must-see is the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, a $42 million center with a 2,000-seat concert hall and a 400-seat theatre. Also, the new Bilo Center is South Carolina?s largest coliseum offering a variety of concerts, sports and family events.

In all, you will find a rich quality of life and a mild climate to make Greenville County an attractive place to call home. As any Greenvillian will tell you, ?home is where the heart is? and Greenville is full of heart. With an abundance of rich community resources, a supportive government, and a solid economic structure, Greenville County is not only a great plane to live but also a great place to visit.
