About Naples, Florida New Homes

Naples and Marco Island.

Until 1885 Naples was only accessible by water, but in 1886 a group of entrepreneurs bought 8,700 acres, mapped out a town and built a 16-room hotel. One of the first guests to visit was President Grover Cleveland's sister. Soon a row of pretentious houses appeared along the beach and became known as "Millionaires' Row." Today it is known as Olde Naples, still maintaining its charm, wealth and air of sophistication.

The beautiful beach stretches along the gulf side and the docks rest on the bay side. Tree lined streets hide the glorious old houses partially from view.

The Naples Pier was originally built in 1888 and was 600 feet long but was destroyed by hurricanes and fire. The pier was rebuilt by residents and gives a glorious view of Millionaire's Row. The pier is now a state historic site.

These days the scene at Naples is one of sophistication and relaxation. Trendy boutiques, cozy restaurants and an assortment of unique shops line the 5th Avenue corridor.

Marco Island offers an easy going, sophisticated, carefree lifestyle surrounded by water, white sandy beaches and fabulous beach resorts. Water sports are high on the list of fun activities. An island paradise located off the edge of the Gulf of Mexico. Marco Island is the largest of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands and is considered a gateway to the Everglades. In the past it was a secluded hideaway for pirates, today it is a secluded getaway for travelers. The close proximity to the Everglades adds an enchanting illusion to this tropical paradise. The water and the beaches display a charismatic charm, dangling off the edge of the busy mainland. Diving is a burgeoning sport in the area along with para sailing and windsurfing.

Collier has two nature areas: Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve is a swamp forest containing the largest stand of native royal palms and largest concentration and variety of orchids in North America and is home to the Florida Black bear, Everglades mink and Florida panther. Rookery bay National Estuarine Research reserve is a mangrove estuary and pine forest.
